Everybody hates calories.
Is there anything to actually like about calories? I mean, when was the last time you said, “Gee, I sure love the fact that this bowl of ice cream has 500 calories”? Oh right, it never happened.
In the sense that we will be using the word “calorie”, Dictionary.com defines a “calorie” as “a quantity of food capable of producing such an amount of energy“. My definition of a calorie: A unit of measurement scientists came up with to make people feel bad about eating.
Yes, truthfully, there are less calories in certain foods than others. But, the really good foods will generally consist of more calories. And one calorie too many almost always prompts the question, “Do you know how many calories that has?!”
And, to that question, you always have an answer: Yes. Yes you do. You do, in fact, realize that the Awesome Blossom from Chili’s has upwards of 2,700 calories. But, you’re trying not to think about it because, after all, it tastes so delicious it would be impossible to stop now. Unfortunately, now that you’re thinking about it, all you can think about is the disgusting amount of weight gain that could be incurred from eating like this. And so, you hang your head in shame, and continue to eat your deluxe bacon cheeseburger with a large order of fries.

Of course, there’s also the health nuts who count calories as if their lives were dependent on how many calories they consumed that day versus how many they burned. “Well, I did have that orange wedge today, so I better go do 70 sit-ups to burn it off.” These people don’t like calories. They hate them just as much as the people who don’t count them. Because if there were no calories, their lives would be, hypothetically, much more normal.
With diets all the rage in this modern era due to the spread of obesity, calories are more hated now than ever before.
However, I’d just like to point out that, without calories, we would not be able to gauge ourselves in a dieting situation, which, in turn, may benefit our health, and prevent us from contracting serious health problems down the road.
And, hey, calorie counters? Don’t forget to indulge once in awhile. A little chocolate never hurt.

very true
When you look for what IS in your food as opposed to what is NOT in your food, you always make a better choice. Real food ingredients will have calories. Fake food may be calorie free and yet it is nutritionally free too! I am putting this article in the http://www.BestBlogReview.com blog carnival.
